After the doctor’s appt. we stopped to pick up a hat for Ainsley to take to camp. It took her 40 minutes to pick. She just kept trying on all of the hats. The salesperson thought it was adorable. I was just plain tired.

We are waiting to go see Ben’s tummy doctor. We expect a good report and to be sent home with a “steady as she goes” plan.
Meantime the kids are reacclumating to the toys that they haven’t seen in a year!

Flags, The 4th, and Hank
Posted in Uncategorized on July 3, 2012| Leave a Comment »
Yesterday we volunteered to put up almost 150 flags around the neighborhood. We decided to take the dog with us on the journey. That was fun. After he reacted to another dog coming towards us, Madie said, “Well that was a Hank move if we’ve ever seen one.” We had been debating a new name for the dog. Ben andChris liked Hank after our favorite series of books, Hank the Cowdog. He truly has a lot of Hank in him!
His relationship with the cat has improved. The cat has come back down the stairs. She hisses and Hank steers clear! Clearly he respects the cat (or is it fear?).
In the end we had a good time putting out flags and taking a nice walk.
Our newest addition . . . Muttley

A friend of ours sent us a picture of this cute dog this week and the picture finally convinced Chris to say yes to a dog. We did some investigating and found out that the dog would be at the shelter today from 9-6 (it was currently in a foster home). He decided that he would go after church and scout out the dog. He would only call us if this was a good fit and he thought it would be ok. Well. By the time we got out of church and he got over there, the first dog was adopted. But then Chris found Muttley. He is a beagle/bassett hound/pug mix (his tail is ALL pug). He called me to bring the kids. When we got there Chris was walking the dog and the kids were out of the car before I knew what happened. I had preached to them the entire way over to the shelter that this was just a test and there was no guarantee we would come home with a dog. I must have been pretty stern because Ainsley asked me if we said no if she was allowed to tell the dog goodbye.
Muttley has been wonderful. He sat in Ben’s lap the entire way home. The foster mom kept telling us that we could just try Muttley out for a few days and if it didn’t work to call her. She had fostered four other dogs, but had ended up adopting all of them. This was her first foster to actually give up. She was so nice. She did a great job with Muttley. He is house broken and crate trained. He is awesome around kids. We had small group tonight at the house and the dog was petted by a slew of children. He never nipped or barked at any of them. He was patient and kind. He even curled up on the couch with the kids today and watched tv with them. So far. So good.
Ben is a little disappointed that the dog can’t sleep with him. Madie is completely worried about the effect this will have on the cat. And Ainsley is just devestated that the dog has “replaced her on Mommy’s lap and she will never be able to cuddle with Mommy again.” It was funny.
And the cat . . . well time will tell. So far the beast has kept her distance. But soon she will attempt to show her dominance. We will see who wins! But this cute dog is here to stay!
