Madie has been practicing every week for months for this competition.  I didn’t know anything about it at all.  I’ve never heard of it.  But it involved acting and Madie was so excited about it that we supported the many, many before and after school practices. Finally it came down to this day.  I was actually looking forward to the competition because I would finally find out what it is that she was practicing for!

It was a type of improv.  It was so cool to see the girls get all excited about creating a skit with their fabulous imaginations.  They were having so much fun.  Even more exciting was that there were only five teams, and the top two were able to go to state.  They were thrilled with the idea.

While the girls were waiting for the announcement of the results, I took them back to the house where they played and ate and got dressed up and played some more.  One of the teachers told us that the kids dressed up crazy during the announcements, so the girls colored their hair and put crazy socks and clothes on.  It was wild.  The girls looked great. Then we went back to the competition and our girls were the craziest there. They didn’t care.  There were having fun.  Unfortunately, the girls tied for last place.  It was their first year and the other groups were better trained (Madie’s coach didn’t say hardly anything to the girls the whole day.  I would ask her questions and she didn’t have any answers.  It was very frustrating.  I was very disappointed.)

Madie was so sad, but Ainsley did her best to try to cheer her up.  She was a great cheerleader!  In the end, we learned a lot and are excited to do it again next year.  Although next year, we moms have vowed to help more!

It was a little busy this year for Valentine’s Day.  I think I say that every year.  I made homemade Valentine’s treats/cards for everyone’s classes.  At least I made all of the same ones and not three different ones this year.  I got to help in Ainsley’s class this year and I stopped by for Ben’s too.  When you get to fifth grade there aren’t any parties any more.  Madie was certainly sad about that one.    So pictures of her, but Ben loved showing off his double ring pops.  Way to ham it up, Ben.20130409-211704.jpg20130409-211741.jpg 20130409-211723.jpg

Madie has been a flower girl twice. Ainsley has never been in a wedding.  When she heard that someone she knew got engaged, I think she and Madie jumped at the chance to apply their charms to see if Ainsley could get the job.  Chris and I had no clue this was going on.  I knew she was interested in the position but I told her that usually couples pick a family member.

Well . . .Ainsley decide not to wait around.  She wrote a resume and submitted it to the bride.

And a few weeks later . . .  she received her answer.20130409-204702.jpg 20130409-204651.jpg

And there was great rejoicing!!  She was absolutely giddy!

At 7 years old she doesn’t let anything stop her.  What will be next?

This picture is the moment that Madie sold her 1000th box of Girl Scout cookies. I think we ended up doing close to 50 booths (One booth equals one – two hour shift.)

Madie did a great job this year. She set a goal and reached it. Of course it took a lot of dedication from the entire family to make it happen. Ben and Ainsley attended a lot of the booth sales. Ben got really good at selling mango creams. He took a lot of pride in it. In fact any booth that Ben was at sold twice as many mango creams.

The second picture is a picture of the storage unit that out troop rented in order to store all of our cookies that we sold this year. The troop sold close to 10,000 boxes of cookies. It was a good year for sales.

If life wasn’t insane enough, I went camping two weekends in a row with two different scout troop at the same camp and the same unit. One weekend was beautiful and sunny. And one weekend was blustery and freezing. Of course the little girls had the cold weekend . We ended up leaving early because we couldn’t get the fire to even boil and the girls had every stitch of clothing on keep warm. It was crazy.

Ainsley is one lucky duck. A four of her grandparents came and visited her on her special day. They had her music program on the same day so they were able to see both. Her grandma grace was a surprise visitor. Ainsley didn’t think she was coming.

Then the grandparents took her and Ben to Panera for sweet rolls and hot chocolate. They were spoiled with sugar and then sent home with me. Pure evil.

I love camping with my scout troops. We did geocaching this weekend and had sooooo much fun. The girls ended up earning five patches that weekend. The girls are growing up so fast. It makes me happy and sad at the same time.
