Start of Day 2 sans Dad

I come home from dropping the kids off to school to find this . . .
Apparently, the person who played with the dogs prior to going to school this morning didn’t shut the door properly. When I came home from dropping the kids off to school. Hannah met me at the door with my shoe in her mouth. Hank had decided to take a different route. He went upstairs and took stuffed animals off of Ainsley’s bed and ripped the heads off. The once clean living room has been reduced to a killing zone for the dogs. They probably had half an hour to destroy things, but luckily only one cat died due to a beheading. Ainsley is NOT going to be thrilled at all.
Day 1 of our Adventures sans Dad

So on the morning of our first day without Dad, we woke up early, got ready with smiles on our faces, and then . . . reality hit. The girls started missing Daddy. The littlest began to melt (Mom could do nothing right.). The best thing for us to do that morning was to get to school. So off we went! After a trip to the post office and the rest of the day spent in the office working, the school day ended and I picked up A and B so that we could head to Texas Children’s in the Woodlands for a Holter monitor and an EKG. Back to pick up Madie and then we headed to church for Wednesday at the Tree. The kids and I decided to bring the snow cone maker in order to celebrate the end of STAAR testing with our small group. There needed to be some sort of celebration regarding the end of the STAAR test for 2014. We decided the best way was to have snow cones! They were a hit. Of course in the middle of our snow cone celebration, Ben comes to me because his “stickers” from his Holter monitor are falling off. If he hadn’t had so much fun playing games, maybe they would have stayed on! But you can see from the picture that he is really groovin’. When we got home, we decided to not take any chances. We put new pads on his chest and taped them down. I asked him what we would do if this didn’t work. He joked and said “duct tape”. I said, “Awesome idea. Maybe we shouldn’t wait until they fall off. Let’s do it right now.” The last picture is of Ben hoping that I won’t really do it.
Everyone is in bed. Hopefully getting plenty of rest for the next day. We miss Daddy. We love looking at his blog and checking out the daily posts from Turkey. Chris called me from Turkey and we were able to FaceTime. It was incredible clarity! I am amazed at technology.

Preparing for Dad’s departure
Posted in Uncategorized on April 21, 2014| Leave a Comment »
Wait until Daddy opens up his suitcase. He is going to love all of the notes that the kids wrote him tonight. Madie’s was a tutorial on how and when to call us from the time zone in Turkey. Ben wrote a mystery letter for Daddy to guess at. And Ainsley wouldn’t let me see the letter because it was “just for Daddy.” Tomorrow we are all going to the airport to say goodbye to him. We are all going to miss Daddy. But we will try to have adventures of our own while Daddy is gone!
This is what we did the day before the STAARS test.

We went to the doctor’s office. The school nurse called this morning and said that Ben was in her office complaining of dizziness and his chest scar hurting. Really? His vitals were good, but he wanted to talk to me because he was worried. Well I think he was worried about the test tomorrow. He has been feeling a little anxious these days about everything. Testing, Dad leaving, Easter plans, etc. But he has been complaining a few aches and pains lately and we have are not allowed to give him Motrin/Tylenol or anything in their drug family. So I thought this would be a good time to go and talk to the Nurse practitioner about another drug he might be able to take or possibly a pain cream he could rub on. But that is not how this visit went. By the end of the visit, the cardiologist had been called and now he has to go for an EKG and Holter monitor. Really?? I explained to the nurse that I wasn’t concerned about the dizziness and that I just needed to some alternatives to Tylenol and Advil. She said that you might not be worried about the dizziness but we are. Of course, there were other symptoms going on (like high blood pressure). Again, I was not worried. So when I practically ran out of the doctor office at the end, it was out of my fear that they would order more testing. I at least talked them out of Ben wearing a Holter during the STAARS test. That would certainly cause him stress during his testing process. So after Dad leaves, we will add that to our to-do list.
End of Easter Day and they still like each other!

After the last family member left, Madie asked her siblings if they wanted to go outside and play with her. Of course, they said yes! I love the fact that after a long day filled with tons of people (from church to family) that they chose to spend the last hour of their day together. Even the dogs were outside playing nicely with them. It was a miracle! They may fight, but they love each other. It was nice seeing them hang out and play games in the backyard before they had to get ready for bed.

Chris decided that he wasn’t done running a fever on Saturday. After we got home from taking pictures in the bluebonnets, Chris’ illness had taken a turn again for the worse. I was tired of dealing with all of this. So I loaded him up in the car and decided to take him to a different clinic/ER. After the first two places were closed early for Easter, we found Physician’s ER. This turned out to be a wise decision. We finally found a doctor who dealt with his situation seriously. They pumped him full of fluids and drugs. They got him home that evening feeling much better. He made it to church that day and the morning went perfectly! He was a little pale and he put caution tape on his door to keep everyone out, but he was there! His sermon was spectacular! It was a good day.

And it was rewarded with BBQ with family. We all worked hard getting beautiful pictures. Debra took them so they will be great! I can’t wait to post them. Thank you Papa and Grandma Lake for your field of bluebonnet and lunch! It was delicious.
