“Do you know why fish can see under water?” asks Ben.
“No. I’ve never thought about it before.”
” Well. We should ask scientists because they are the smartest people in the world,” declares Ben.
“I think you should be a scientist, Ben. You are really smart too.”
“I know. (Pause.) Mom, I think that fish can see underwater because there is salt in the water. When it mixes with the water it helps fish to be able to see. Yeah. I am sure that is it,” says Ben.
“I am sure that you are right, Ben.”
Hey, wait a second. On the way to the model train show, ben brought this up. He said fish couldn’t see in the water. I explained why they could. I explained we can see underwater too when we swim, even w/o goggles. He said he couldn’t see underwater without goggles, but Maddie could. He said Maddie was born with fish eyes.
Since Maddie doesn’t have glasses, can we call her Fish Eyes rather than Four Eyes?
You never know what is going to come out of that boy’s mouth. He is a riot!
p.s. Call Madie anything other than Madie and I’ll take you down. Just ask Debra. I can do it. I can be scrappy when I want to.
Your loving sister-in-law,
Kath
