“Nobody calls him that name. Only Grandma is allowed to call him Cecil!” says Madie with grave concern in her voice.
Ben is writing a paper about his Grandpa Lake and Madie was REALLY worried about using his real first name. She thought papa would be angry. I told her that if he got really mad and killed Ben, then there would be one less grandkid and Madie would get more love and attention. She really liked that idea!

Tell Ben that up until his Grandfather was in the first grade he did not know his name was Cecil Eugene. he was called SONNY. Everyone knew that Grand Daddv Lake called him Sonny so they called him that.. When we moved to Dallas and he started school, His teacher sat him in the middle of the class during the first days of school when he did not answer to roll call by the name of Cecil.. she did not know who he was. Baba had I had to go to school and see what was going on. Baba named him after her brother but did not want him called that nor did she want him called Gene. My mother had definite ideas.
